Genetic Epidemiology - Students

Michael Chou

Broadly, I am interested in population genetics and how genetic and genomic information is used. My current research involves analysing structural variation in Hirschsprung Disease, a neurodevelopmental birth defect.

Dylan Duchen

My research interests lie at the intersection of host-pathogen dynamics, genetic epidemiology, and the immune response to infectious diseases. I hope to utilize genomic data at both the host and pathogen level to study human susceptibility or resistance to certain infectious diseases.

Ellen Howerton

My primary research interest is the gene-environment interplay in the developmental origins of disease. I am especially interested in the ways in which epigenetic modifications in the reproductive and prenatal windows are relevant to health outcomes, particularly for neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Cristian Valencia

My research interest is to understand the genetic contribution on the diversity of the human immune response, with a particular focus on gene regulation. Integrating this functional information into genetic population studies may offers insights into the mechanism of complex diseases.

Sowmya Venkataraghavan

2017. I am interested in using genetic epidemiology tools to discover variants associated with increased susceptibility to chronic diseases in different populations. I am currently working on the genetics of cleft lip and cleft palette for my master’s thesis

Jennifer Wang

I am a PhD student interested in studying how genomic changes affect thyroid cancer risk and survival.

Yanzi Xiao

I am interested in the genetics of cervical cancer. I am currently working on a pre-doc fellowship with the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics at NCI. My dissertation is aimed to better understand the interaction between human papillomavirus (HPV) and host genetics.
